I have decided to create a blog. Don’t think I don’t know I am neither interesting nor talented enough to maintain a truly successful blog. But right now I am sure as hell bored enough to create one. So, I will, God Dammit!
I am staying in beautiful Ithaca over the summer and will probably be extremely bored then too. So, I will document and broadcast every moment of my life for the handful of people that feign interest in my endeavors.
Here are a few of my goals:
1. Write in this stupid blog
2. Eat healthy and travel to Wegman’s often
3. Learn to speak German
4. Do Yoga 3x per week or more
5. Make money
6. Read a philosophy essay a day
I am quite the goal setter actually. How many of these goals will even be given a genuine attempt will reveal itself with time.

Why learning German?
So many different reasons 😀
It’s beautiful!!
I speak French already and would eventually like to know a bunch of different European languages for travelling. I’ve been to Alsace and would love to see real Germany.
Most importantly I love German philosophy, and I don’t trust translators.
It’s much more difficult to learn than English, and you’re right, the online translators have problems with German language. I think, English sounds more beautiful – especially in music.
What do you mean with “German philosophy”?
Oh I like that – learning German AND Philosophy essays. Once you know some German you should give Kant a read. Or maybe you shouldn’t. Sure is an experience. But I agree with my philo profs that keep saying there are rather many Germans that read Kant in English translations because it’s easier to understand. Ftw
I suppose, most Germans neither read Kant in German nor English but much more than before 1945 are trying to live his categorical imperative: “Act only on that maxim through which you can at the same time will that it should become an universal law.”
Hah, that reminds me how much it made my toenails curl up a few days ago when a Theology prof mentioned in passing something along the lines of “… or Kant’s categorical imperative, you know, the golden rule.” OH NO OH NO IT’S SO NOT THE SAME :<
People should do some thinking before mindlessly embracing things like that just because they sound cool or smart. At least that's my first thoughtm Might be a bit harsh…
I wouldn’t listen to theology professors. But for the vast amount of people who are not able to think independently and are without orientation, Kant’s proposition could be quite good, at least I don’t know any better. Thinking is not thus excluded. Philosophy often appears as cool and smart but has no reality.
[ah, a mistake on my side there – she’s a prof of the study of religions (“Religionswissenschaft”), not Theology. And the rest of her lecture on Asian religions is pretty good :3]
